Find your model number
Every appliance has a label โ a sticker or metal plate โ with its model number and serial number. The model number tells us exactly which parts fit. Pick your appliance below to see where the label usually hides.
Refrigerator
- Inside the fresh-food (main) compartment, on the upper side wall or the ceiling โ often near the light.
- Behind or beside the crisper drawers: pull them out and check the side walls and the floor of the compartment.
- On the frame of the left door opening (common on French-door and side-by-side models).
- On the back of the fridge, or behind the toe grille (kick plate) at the bottom front.
Freezer
- Upright freezers: inside, on the upper side wall or near the door gasket, like a fridge.
- Chest freezers: on the outside back or side of the cabinet, often low down, or under the lid near the hinge.
- Behind the toe grille or on the back panel if you can't find it inside.
Washer
- Top-load: lift the lid and check the underside of the lid and the rim around the tub opening.
- Top-load: on the back of the control panel (the console) or the back of the cabinet.
- Front-load: open the door and look on the door rim โ the cabinet frame around the opening.
- Front-load: on the back of the cabinet, or behind the small access panel at the bottom front.
Dryer
- Open the door and check the door frame around the opening โ the most common spot.
- On the inside of the door itself, or near the lint filter slot.
- On the back panel, or on the side or back of the control panel.
Dishwasher
- Open the door part way and look along the edge of the inner door โ left side, right side or top.
- On the side walls of the tub opening, just inside the door.
- Behind the kick plate (the lower front panel) if it isn't on the door or tub.
Range, oven & cooktop
- Pull out (or remove) the storage or warming drawer under the oven and check the frame behind it.
- Open the oven door and look around the door frame or on the side trim.
- On the back of the range. Cooktops usually have it on the underside; wall ovens on the frame when the door is open.
Microwave
- Open the door and check the frame around the opening, or the inside wall of the cavity.
- On the back or the side of the unit (countertop models).
- Over-the-range models: inside the door frame, or on the underside โ sometimes behind the grease filters.
Air conditioner
- Window and portable units: on the side or back of the cabinet, or behind the front grille (it usually lifts or snaps off).
- Central A/C: on the outdoor unit's rating plate, usually on the side near the electrical panel.
- Furnace-side (indoor) coils and air handlers have their own label โ make sure you're on the part you need.
Dehumidifier
- Take out the water bucket and look inside the bucket cavity.
- On the back or the side of the cabinet.
Water heater
- On the rating plate on the side of the tank, usually near the gas control valve or the upper element access panel.
- Tankless heaters: on the side of the cabinet or inside the front cover.
Vacuum
- Upright and stick vacuums: on the bottom of the unit, or under the dust bin once it's removed.
- Canister vacuums: on the bottom or the back of the canister.
- Robot vacuums: on the underside, sometimes under the dust bin.
Small appliance
- On the bottom or the back of the unit โ the rating label with the voltage and wattage.
- Near where the power cord enters the unit, or printed on the cord tag.
Still can't find it? Check the owner's manual, the original receipt, or a warranty registration card โ the model number is usually printed on all three. Labels can also fade or peel off over time; a torch held at an angle helps with worn ones.
Model number vs serial number
The label usually shows both, side by side:
- Model number โ often marked
MODEL,MOD.orM/N. It identifies the design, so every unit with the same model number takes the same parts. This is the one we need. - Serial number โ often marked
SERIAL,SER.orS/N. It's unique to your individual unit (it often encodes when it was built), so it can't be used to look up parts on its own.
Common mix-ups
- Letter O vs zero, I vs 1, S vs 5, B vs 8. Labels use small fonts. If a lookup finds nothing, try swapping these.
- Keep the trailing digits. Many model numbers end in a short revision code like
00,01or/A2. Different revisions can use different parts, so enter the full number as printed โ we'll suggest close matches if that exact revision isn't in our catalogue yet. - Leave off the label text. Don't type
MOD.,MODEL,M/Nor#โ just the number that follows. - Don't use the serial number, part numbers or the date code. If you see several numbers, the model number is the one labelled as such.
Just snap a photo
Found the sticker but it's hard to read? Take a photo of it and upload it where you enter a model number (for example when you sell a part) โ we'll read the model number for you, and you confirm it before anything is saved.
- Fill the frame with the whole label, and hold the phone straight on.
- Use good light but avoid glare โ a slight angle helps on shiny metal plates.
- Make sure the photo is in focus; tap the label on your screen before taking it.
