Privacy Policy
PartScrounge ("we", "our", "us") operates the PartScrounge marketplace at partscrounge.com. This policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
PartScrounge is operated by Telescopes Canada (Georgetown, Ontario, Canada). We comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) in Canada.
Information We Collect
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address, name, and (optionally) business name. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile picture from Google. We do not receive your Google password.
Listing information. When you list a part, we store the part details you enter (part name, model number, condition, price, photos, and your approximate location derived from the postal code or FSA you provide).
Transaction information. When a sale occurs on PartScrounge, payment is processed by Stripe. Stripe collects the buyer's payment details directly; PartScrounge receives only the transaction metadata (amount, status, line items) needed to fulfil the order. We do not store credit card numbers on our servers.
Third-party marketplace connections. If you connect your eBay account for crosslisting, we store an access token and refresh token issued by eBay so we can list and manage your parts on your behalf. You can disconnect your eBay account at any time from your Dashboard, which deletes these tokens.
Usage data. We collect standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, pages viewed, timestamps) to operate and secure the site.
How We Use Your Information
- To operate the marketplace and let you list, buy, and sell parts.
- To process payments through Stripe and coordinate shipping.
- To crosslist your parts on eBay if you connect your eBay account.
- To send you account-related notifications (orders, messages, responses to parts you posted).
- To prevent fraud, enforce our terms of service, and respond to legal requests.
- To improve PartScrounge — for example, by analyzing which features are used most.
Information We Share
We share information with third parties only as needed to operate the marketplace:
- Stripe — processes all payments. See Stripe's privacy policy.
- eBay — if you connect your eBay account, we send listing data to eBay on your behalf. See eBay's privacy policy.
- Shipping carriers — we share delivery addresses with carriers (Canada Post, UPS, FedEx, etc.) to generate shipping labels.
- Microsoft Azure — our hosting provider. Azure processes data on our behalf.
- Law enforcement — if required by a valid legal process.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your information with advertisers.
Other Sellers and Buyers
When you list a part, the part details you provide (part name, model, condition, price, photos, and your approximate location) are visible to other PartScrounge users. Your email address is not displayed publicly — communication between buyers and sellers happens through the PartScrounge messaging system until an order is placed.
When an order is placed, the seller receives the buyer's shipping address so they can ship the part.
Data Retention
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. Transaction records are retained for at least 7 years to comply with Canadian tax and accounting requirements. You can request deletion of your account at any time by emailing us (see below).
Security
Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. All traffic between your browser and PartScrounge is encrypted with TLS. Database connections are encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Cookies
PartScrounge uses cookies and browser storage for essential site functionality: keeping you logged in, remembering your theme preference, and remembering your currency preference (CAD/USD). We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
Your Rights
Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA), you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Withdraw consent for ongoing processing (subject to legal and contractual obligations).

Children
PartScrounge is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated via email or an in-app notice.
